THE COMPANIONS

SELECTED PRAYERS FROM JUNE 2025 INTERCESSION PAPER

Seed-time

This is the seed-time:

Be, like the seed, and wait.

When spring rain seeps through the dark loam,

Crack open, release the first tiny shoots.

Let them reach up to drink, grow, drink again.

Feel the rich soil.

Crack once more,

And stretch down roots to hold you there.

You will be changed, as the shoots push up toward the sun,

Greeting the birds of the air.

As the seed is lost in growing, reaching, rooting,

So you may not know yourself.

You cannot foresee the fruit or the flower.

Only be, like the seed, and wait.

THANKSGIVING: SUNDAY AND EVERY DAY

God, thank you for the abundance of blessings in our lives every day, for the intricacy of nature, and for the connections of our lives in relationships. Thank you for gently guiding us, through blessings, in living our vows of simplicity, faithfulness, and service to you.

Lynn Edwards, SCHC

SIMPLICITY OF LIFE: MONDAY

Abba, Father, you are the Potter

we are the clay.

Heavenly Father

help me be the clay in your hands.

Shape me every day

to do your work and reflect your love

in this time and place,

in Jesus’ name.

Julie Brooke Carroll, SCHC

UNITY OF ALL GOD’S PEOPLE: TUESDAY

May we remember in great gratitude the life and witness of Pope Francis, who followed the teachings of Jesus in word and deed, always looking to keep company with those at the margins of society. He also embraced those of any and all faiths who understand this as their central spiritual vocation.

Katharine Evans, SCHC

SOCIAL JUSTICE: WEDNESDAY

In the name of our Creator, Mother of us all, we ask you this day to watch over our children: We are aware of civil strife where famine affects the most vulnerable, war-torn places in the world, where bombs kill children and parents put them in body bags. We grieve for children whose parents are being deported from this country and the constant fear experienced by those families. We hear of children who experience daily trauma in their homes as family members struggle with addiction and mental illness. We weep as Jesus wept. May our prayers become a protest to these injustices we witness in our lives, in the nation and in the world.

Veronica Chapman, SCHC

PEACE & RECONCILIATION: THURSDAY

May peace be as a flowering tree

that takes root in each one of us,

its blossoms filled with healing hope

and fragrant with God’s grace.

Stephanie Stover, SCHC

GROWTH IN SPIRITUAL LIFE: FRIDAY

Dear Lord, we’ve journeyed through another Lent and into Eastertide. Please help us to remember what we learned or gained this spring. Help us to build on these gains in the months ahead and take the Lenten lessons and the Easter joys with us into summer. Let us not lose our new spiritual growth as we plant summer flowers. Perhaps we will say a prayer as we plant or as we just sit in the shade with some friends. Thank you for your love and care that is with us each day.

Louise Bower, SCHC

PRAYERS PERSONAL AND GENERAL: SATURDAY

Precious Savior, may we remember that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. May we embrace and honor the differences in us and in your creation. Help us to understand that our jagged edges are designed to perfectly fit together to form the design that only you can see in totality. Make us thankful for our part in this perfect design, knowing that it isn’t complete without us, and all others that you have created.
