SELECTED PRAYERS FROM JULY/AUGUST INTERCESSION PAPER
Cover Poem
My Precious Lord
Whisper to the ear of my heart
Speak softly the words of your peace
Tell me what you need me to know
Share your secrets to heal my soul
Breathe in my life your breath of love
Sing the songs my heart yearns to hear.

Sunday
I’m thankful that simplicity was a guide in my life when doors were opening for me and I needed to balance my strengths with growth in specific ways. Now, in my 90s, I know many who live in adjacent apartments, and move in wheelchairs in this senior lifestyle facility, and are dealing more concertedly with meeting our Savior in person in the anticipated next world. May the Light of the World shine upon us all, calming our souls, and bring us to be with others in the Communion of Saints.

Monday
Dearest One, may our conversations with you reflect the wisdom of our brother Henri Nouwen, who advised us to let ourselves be “useless” in your divine presence. Prayer is not a way of being busy with God instead of people. In fact, it unmasks the illusion of busyness, usefulness and indispensability. Indeed, it is a hard discipline to be useless in God’s presence and let God speak in the silence of my heart.

Tuesday
Lord, in this time of political turmoil, please bring all people to a sense of harmony with you and your teachings as our guide. Give us humility and a quiet spirit in the not knowing and chaos; but a clear path and courage for what our role should be.

Wednesday
Turmoil ripples across the world and touches the farthest regions. It is difficult to know how to pray. Have mercy. Lord Jesus, you intercede on behalf of all who suffer, may each dwell in calm in the midst of storms. For those facing incredible hardships, help! Grant us courage to live in right standing before you and our neighbor. Grant repentance that we may face your judgment in this world and the next. Have mercy on our blindness. Realign the hearts and actions of humanity. These areas of concern are on our minds today.

Thursday
Peace at the Bird Feeder
Mothers, fathers, together and single fine-feathered
birds and squirrels
Take turns at the bird feeder.
A place of peace.
I bow to them, including the rabbits, raccoons, armadillos on the ground
And all God’s creatures who bring harmony and balance. A place of peace within me and all around.
Ann Smith, SCHC
Friday
It seems there is no retirement plan for using the gifts God has given us. As we age, we are still called upon to live out the life Christ called us to live. To use our God-given gifts in whatever way we are called to do so. May God give me the strength, wisdom and awareness to respond to the continued call.

Saturday
Dear God,
Help us to remain calm during times of upheaval
Help us when we feel helpless or afraid
Help us to stay focused on kindness to ourselves and all people
Help us to be of service to those mistreated or abandoned by our nation
In the kindness of Jesus, I pray.
