SELECTED PRAYERS FROM JANUARY 2025 INTERCESSION PAPER
FROM JANUARY 2025 INTERCESSION PAPER
For those who have fled to this country from war, violence, starvation, and fear, we ask you, dear Lord, to keep them safe. Help them to find restful sanctuary and open the hearts of the citizens of this country to aid, feed, and advocate for their safety and well-being. May we become willing to be your heart, hands, and feet in welcoming the stranger.
THANKSGIVING: SUNDAY AND EVERY DAY
A Companion gives enormous thanks for all who sent prayers during her recent hospitalization, and especially for this prayer: Breathe on me, breath of God, fill me with life anew, that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.
– The Hymnal 1982, Hymn 508
SIMPLICITY OF LIFE: MONDAY
The quiet of the early morn.
The light of day peeking through at dawn.
The chirping of the birds in song.
May the simple pleasures of the day begun
remind us each day of God’s love for us,
and our commitment to love one another … simply.
– Cheryl Harrigan, SCHC
UNITY OF ALL GOD’S PEOPLE: TUESDAY
Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, everlasting God of community, we lament the loss of our kin in creation. Help us remember that you grieve with us. Teach us to recognize you in each one of our siblings, human or more-than-human. Lead us to imitate your gratuitous love, so that together we may heal the world, one breath, one prayer, one action at a time, so that together our collective love may contribute to the restoration of your whole body. In your many Names we pray.
– Deb Baker, SCHC

PEACE & RECONCILIATION: THURSDAY
Gracious God, as we move into a time of new leadership for our country, please give us the grace to work and live in ways that will be best for those who live in this country and around the world. Grant us ears open to others. Grant us minds open to process truths from all sides. Grant us strength and courage to face the questions and issues before us, and to speak our beliefs and opinions clearly and without animosity.
Help us, Holy One, become the kind of world that you envisioned when you created us.
– Edwina Simpson, SCHC
GROWTH IN SPIRITUAL LIFE: FRIDAY
I wake this day in wonder, Lord, and reach out my hand to you. I do not know what awaits. I do know that, with you, I can hold the surprises, the joy, the sorrow, the fear, the mystery, the hurt, the compassion that may appear. I wake this day, reach out my hand to you, filled with gratitude that you still choose to walk this earth.
– Kay Hankinson, SCHC
PRAYERS PERSONAL AND GENERAL: SATURDAY
Created in the image of God
Places us as a vision
Embedded with Love.
As we become more and more
Aware of this Presence
We know we are participants
In life’s evolution.
My emptiness slowly fills
With a knowing of Love
Shared from the Universe.
– Phoebe Griswold, SCHC
