ADELYNROOD

Since 1914, Adelynrood has been the Companions’ retreat and conference center. Located in Byfield, Massachusetts, its natural setting, beautiful gardens and historic buildings are ideal for individuals or group meetings, reflection and renewal. Just 45 minutes north of Boston and minutes from historic Newburyport and the Plum Island beaches, Adelynrood’s 14-acre campus backs up to The Great Marsh, New England’s largest salt marsh.

Historically, Companions gathered at Adelynrood each summer for programs and retreats on religious, social justice and educational topics. Companions enjoyed community life and volunteered in various roles, ranging from hostess to gardener to events coordinator.

The Society is currently planning the best use of our resources to live out our mission. In 2026, we will host only day groups and may offer some chapel services on the Adelynrood property. We will instead sponsor programs held in other locations and online. Adelynrood will not offer overnight accommodations or food service in 2026.

DAY MEETING SPACE

Adelynrood welcomes groups for day meetings. Non-profits, state agencies, businesses, church groups, family reunions, schools, artists, craft guilds and other groups can rent our day meeting facilities.

SCHOOL FOR SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

The School for Spiritual Direction provides special training for those seeking to develop a call to holy listening. The School, held in-person each summer, welcomes women and men from all faiths.
