SELECTED PRAYERS FROM JUNE INTERCESSION PAPER

Here I am Lord,

Showing up for the day’s work.

I feel surrounded by a world filled with anxiety,

anger, selfishness and injustice.

How can I help, Lord?

Let me sit quietly and listen for your direction;

and then

Give me the grace to live your love well today in

everything I do.

– Bobbe Miller, SCHC

THANKSGIVING: SUNDAY AND EVERY DAY

Beloved Creator,

It is the lovely month of June, and today we

pray for growth in our spiritual lives. May we

look to nature and see the cycle of life, from

seed to flower, bloom to fading. May we be

reminded of the symbolism of flowers–roses

for love, bluebells for humility, lilies for

purity, red zinnias for constancy. May our

spiritual lives flourish and reflect the wonder

and beauty of God’s creation.

– Sally Fullman, SCHC

SIMPLICITY OF LIFE: MONDAY

The longer days come to us as our day lengthens towards the summer equinox,

Flowers bloom,

Birds sing

Butterflies appear from their chrysalises,

Dew appears at the crack of dawn.

We reap the benefits of all this beauty,

And it all happens in God’s creation

As we simply enjoy the beauty of it all.

– A Companion

UNITY OF ALL GOD’S PEOPLE: TUESDAY

God of love, in whom I dare to trust,

teach us to walk this rocky road together.

For you are our maker, maker of all:

the right, the left, the up, the down

and those squarely in the middle.

Unlock, unclench our ears, our hearts, our minds, our

souls.

Make us see as others see, even when we don’t agree.

Show us the common ground—the places where we

can laugh and sport and be refreshed,

and find the things we love, together.

And teach us to be true to you, always.

– Eve Webster, SCHC

SOCIAL JUSTICE: WEDNESDAY

Blessed Jesus, source of all love, please help us to

show those who are struggling to survive that they

are worthy of our love and care. When I see someone

who does not appear to have a place to sleep, or

enough to eat, or the resources to stay clean and

warm, remind me to look into their eyes and really

see them as the child of God that they are.

Let me help them, while acknowledging the hard

work that they do every day just to stay alive. Let me

look at them with love, not pity. And let me do it all

for you, because you show us all your love and care

every day.

– Polly Gosselin, SCHC

PEACE AND RECONCILIATION: THURSDAY

Loving God, your child Jesus taught us that we

should be peacemakers, to love our enemies and pray

for those who persecute us. Please help us to do

whatever we can individually and together to work

toward peace in our war-torn world, to do whatever

we can to work toward peace in our country and

around the world.

– Betty Lane, SCHC

GROWTH IN SPIRITUAL LIFE: FRIDAY

May we realize each day that our souls need our

attention and care in order for us to live as God’s

beloved with peace, joy and love for ourselves and

each other.

– Barbara Monahan, SCHC

PRAYERS PERSONAL AND GENERAL: SATURDAY

Dear Lord, help us to open our hearts and minds to

your teachings and to recognize the varied sources

through which these lessons come. May we

increasingly embody them in our dealings with all

our sisters and brothers, not just those with whom we

are in sympathy but most particularly those whose

views and ways we struggle to understand or accept.

We ask this gift through your saving Son, Jesus,

whose life of loving service is our perfect model for

the Christian life.

– Barbara Deller, SCHC
